18% grey is a photo studio which operates from Karachi. It started in 1997 and has been shooting for over a decade now, they have six main photographers who bring life to images and add color to the emotions that they capture.
Amean J. is the lead photographers at 18% studio, a part time faculty at Indus Valley School of Arts and Design is a veteran in his craft. He started his career in photography as a fashion photographer then inched his way into advertising as well, after spending a few years in the professional side of business he lingered into personal space, capturing images that felt near to him and brought him ease. It was that personal work that brought him into the spotlight with successful exhibitions like Zoo Blue, Karachi Scapes, Moharram and Sand & Water.
He studied BFA in Photography at Academy of Art University in San Francisco and brought his learning into the Pakistani photography industry but being a constant learner he was not satisfied with his credentials so he took up MA in Media, Culture and Technology at University of London. He often tells his students that if they want to achieve greatness they need to first understand the rules, he says if you want to break them you have to understand them first.
