They say expressing yourself is the hardest thing to do, may it be with words or actions and often those who want to do it find themselves lacking the tools required to do so but a few very lucky people who are determined and ambitious manage to express themselves. Jiya Mirza is one of those lucky people, only 22 she has found the tools to express herself through photography.
Born in a small city Jiya has always been a person full of life. Like her name she is full of life and love everything that has been around her. Gujrat being one of the small towns in Pakistan, Jiya spent her early years watching the rural neighbourhoods adapting the urban lifestyle and that is exactly what makes her pictures special. Most photographers don't really get the chance to experience these two distinctive lifestyle but she had the good fortune of being brought up in a small town and then moving to a big city like lahore and this is what gave her the eye for photography that close to reality and has in it a depth that brings out the best out of any given image. She found herself behind a camera when she was young but her true passion for photography took roots in 2008 and that is when she found herself clicking with mobile cams and simple digital cameras. Those low resolution shots taught her how to maximize her potential and how to achieve the best results with less then spectacular equipment then when in 2012 she got herself a dslr, it wasn't just another kid with a fancy camera.
Every photographer finds themselves on a different path on their journey to learn this instinctive and beautiful art and for Jiya it all came from within herself, spending hours with her camera and experimenting with different setting is how she learned to operate the camera while patience by her models gave her the opportunity to play around and craft amazing shots. A few graphic designing courses under her belt this girl is not just a photographer but a digital artist as well who plans to open the idea of graphic content in Pakistan. A girl with humble beginnings she feels that even after so many years and experience under her belt, she is just a beginner and that she needs to rise higher before she could actually offer advice to others but she feels that its time that Pakistani's started paying attention to fantasy photography, the industry seems to be hung up on real life but in her opinion its high time that her fellows started exploring the prospects of digitally edited images that can offer a fictional escape for the viewer. Capturing is easy but its the passion that goes on in the making of the shot is what makes it stand out, from the lighting conditions to the how the subject is presented by the photographer and most importantly the story that it tells.
